About the role#
Simpson Gumpertz & Heger (SGH) is looking for a Technical Intern to join our Atlanta office for the Summer 2027 term. This is a full-time, paid internship where you will work alongside engineers to gain hands-on experience in a consulting environment. You will apply your classroom knowledge to real-world engineering challenges, both in the office and during field work.
What you'll do#
- Assist with construction monitoring, field investigations, condition assessments, and site inspections.
- Support project drafting, structural design, and analysis.
- Analyze materials and support our petrography staff.
- Develop test protocols, design and build testing apparatus, perform tests, and analyze the resulting data.
- Collaborate with engineers to perform reconnaissance on existing structures.
- Organize field data and conduct research to assist with problem-solving and repair design.
- Perform analysis using a mix of hand calculations and software.
- Help prepare client deliverables, such as construction documents, specifications, and reports.
- Note that this work may involve travel and working from heights.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a Civil Engineering or Architecture program.
- Strong academic performance.
- Interest in structural engineering, materials science, or architectural engineering.
- A desire to learn through hands-on work in a professional consulting setting.
- Enthusiasm for developing sophisticated engineering work products.
- Strong communication skills.
