About the role#
Simpson Gumpertz & Heger (SGH) is seeking students for a Summer 2027 internship in our Waltham, Massachusetts office. You will work alongside engineers to apply classroom knowledge to real-world projects. This role involves both office work and field investigations. Please note that the work may include travel and working from heights.
What you'll do#
- Assist with construction monitoring, field investigations, condition assessments, and performance testing.
- Collaborate with engineers to investigate existing structures and monitor construction progress.
- Organize field data and conduct research to support analysis, problem solving, and repair design.
- Perform analysis using hand calculations and software under the guidance of licensed professionals.
- Assist with project drafting, design, and the preparation of client deliverables such as reports, specifications, and construction documents.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a degree program for Civil Engineering, Architecture, or a related field like structural engineering or materials science.
- A strong academic record.
- Interest in gaining hands-on experience within a consulting engineering environment.
- Enthusiasm for developing professional engineering work products.
- Strong communication skills.

- Compensation: Undergraduate students earn $29.25 to $32.50 per hour, graduate students earn $33.75 to $34.75 per hour, and PhD students earn $36.75 per hour. Interns are also eligible for a $1,000 sign-on bonus.
