About the role#
Semtech is hiring a Firmware Design Intern for the Signal Integrity Products group in Ottawa. This is a full-time, paid internship for the Summer 2027 term. You will join the team to work on firmware design, development, verification, and characterization for data communications and video products. You will work directly with senior designers who provide guidance throughout your term.
What you'll do#
- Analyze functional requirements for new products to determine necessary data structures and behaviors.
- Collaborate with design and system teams to create algorithms.
- Design firmware structures that meet specific functional requirements.
- Write firmware documentation.
- Implement firmware modules using C, C++, assembly level software, and standard design patterns.
- Define test cases and write test automation to validate designs.
- Work with the development team to ensure hardware and firmware interoperability.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or Electrical Engineering.
- Understanding of real-time operating systems.
- Knowledge of embedded programming in C or C++.
- Experience with Python.
- Ability to read and understand hardware block diagrams and schematics.
- Skills in troubleshooting, testing, and debugging.
- Ability to work independently or within a team and learn new concepts quickly.
