About the role#
As a student scientist, you will design and conduct experiments for the Translational Product Development team. You will work under the guidance of experienced scientists to coordinate research efforts. This role involves working with teams of both scientists and non-scientists. You will have the chance to follow developments in the pharmaceutical industry by reading literature and testing your ideas in the lab. You will also present your research to the R&D team at the end of your co-op.
What you'll do#
- Formulate hydrophilic and hydrophobic APIs in polymers and analyze drug release for long-acting implantables.
- Formulate large molecule peptide and protein loaded dosage forms.
- Analyze dissolution media using HPLC and perform daily HPLC runs.
- Extract APIs from polymers for analysis.
- Use FTIR and Raman spectroscopy to determine API-polymer mixing and distribution.
- Perform thermal analyses including DSC and TGA along with rheometry to study interactions.
- Determine particle size of APIs using light scattering.
- Select and execute experiments based on previous results and scientific theory.
- Contribute to project goals and troubleshoot equipment or supply issues.
- Keep detailed records of all experiments and results in your laboratory notebook.
What you'll need#
- You must be a student scientist currently enrolled in a relevant program like Chemistry, Biomedical Sciences, Pharmaceutical Sciences, Biomedical Engineering, or Chemical Engineering.
- This position is reserved for candidates pre-selected through the Drexel University Co-op program.
- Ability to work effectively with teams comprised of scientists and non-scientists.
- A basic understanding of scientific theory related to drug delivery.
