About the role#
Schnabel Engineering is looking for a full-time Civil Engineering Intern for the summer of 2027. This role focuses on building practical knowledge by applying engineering principles to real projects under the guidance of senior staff. You will work on-site in Seattle from May through August.
What you'll do#
- Perform geotechnical field work, including observing subsurface exploration and using GPS to layout borings.
- Conduct infiltration testing and laboratory testing.
- Provide construction observation and materials testing at various sites.
- Create basic plans and figures using AutoCAD and GIS software.
- Assist engineers with the preparation of geotechnical reports and proposals.
- Travel as required for project needs.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in an ABET-accredited Civil Engineering Bachelor’s program, or a relevant engineering or science program.
- Ability to work as part of a team and follow direction.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills plus computer literacy.
- Willingness to work outdoors and perform a variety of office and field tasks.
- Physical ability to routinely lift up to 50 pounds.
- Junior, senior, or graduate students are preferred.
- Prior professional or intern experience in a related field is a plus, as is a Master’s degree in Civil Engineering.

- Position is based in Seattle, Washington.
- Must possess a valid U.S. driver’s license.
- Ability to pass a background check and a pre-employment drug screening is required.
- This is a paid, full-time internship.
