About the role#
As a Structural Engineering Intern in our Nuclear Power Group, you will join a project team focused on the design of new power plants and upgrades to existing systems. This role is for the summer of 2027. You will work under the direction of experienced engineers to support the execution of project work. We expect you to solve engineering problems by using data and modern tools to improve workflows and deliver designs.
What you'll do#
- Assist in the preparation of engineering calculations, specifications, and designs.
- Review structural design drawings and vendor drawings.
- Support a team of engineers and designers in performing structural analysis and design for steel frames, connections, concrete members, equipment and piping supports, and foundations.
- Apply your knowledge of materials, structural analysis, structural steel design, and reinforced concrete design.
- Use automation, scripting, or AI tools to create calculations, summarize documents, or draft design documentation when appropriate.
What you'll need#
- Active enrollment in a Bachelor or Master of Science degree in Structural, Civil, or Architectural Engineering.
- Strong academic background with an interest in the behavior of materials, structural analysis, steel and concrete design, and foundation design.
- Proficiency with MS Office applications.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Enrollment in an ABET Engineering Accreditation Commission approved program is preferred.
- Coursework in steel and concrete design is preferred.
- Prior internship or co-op experience and knowledge of programs like MathCad, STAAD PRO, SAP2000, SAFE, GT STRUDL, or ANSYS are valued.
- Interest in Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, or Software Engineering is a plus.
