About the role#
This internship position within the Sargent & Lundy Consulting group focuses on utility planning and advisory projects. You will work alongside our Consulting Business Group to apply your engineering background to real-world power system challenges. This is a full-time, paid role based on-site in Chicago, Illinois, for the summer of 2027.
What you'll do#
- Prepare new generator interconnection applications, including the development of conceptual single-line diagrams and PSS/E models.
- Review ISO feasibility and system impact studies to provide guidance to our clients.
- Perform independent power system studies, focusing on thermal and voltage contingency analyses.
- Support project teams with due diligence for power generation and system planning projects.
- Prepare technical reports and consulting deliverables, such as conceptual designs and specifications.
- Use data, automation, and AI tools to solve engineering problems, improve workflows, and reduce rework.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a BS or MS program in Electrical Engineering.
- Completion of at least six semesters or equivalent quarters at an accredited university.
- A minimum overall GPA of 3.0.
- Experience in writing technical reports and proposals.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to work with and guide others.
- Proficiency in programming or scripting, such as Python or MATLAB, is valued but not required.
