This position provides engineering support to the Naval Information Warfare Center (NIWC) Pacific Communications Division. The role involves working under the supervision of engineering and scientific professionals on projects related to software-defined radios, SATCOM systems, and tactical communications. This is a student position limited to 20 hours per week.
What you'll do#
- Provide engineering support for Communication Systems Operations, including operating Type 1 encrypted military narrowband radios and managing COMSEC protocols.
- Assist in the implementation of Software-Defined Radios (SDR), MANET radios, and signal characterization sensors.
- Operate and navigate Unmanned Surface Vehicles (USV) during naval lab exercises.
- Develop software and scripts to automate tactical radio transmissions.
- Execute system simulations to evaluate SATCOM constraints and operational scenarios.
- Use Security Technical Implementation Guide (STIG) Viewer to implement and validate system security controls.
- Assist in the development of training materials for tactical radio and satellite communications.
What you'll need#
- Must be a Junior or Senior level student.
- Coursework in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Mathematics, Physics, or Statistics is preferred.
- Ability to operate Type 1 cryptographic devices.
- Undergraduate Student II: Experience in 50% of task requirements and ability to work 50% independently.
- Undergraduate Student III: Experience in 100% of task requirements and ability to work 90% independently.
- US Citizenship is required due to Department of Defense regulations.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret security clearance.

- Employment Type: Full-time student position, limited to 20 hours per week.
- Compensation: $19.67 per hour.
