About the role#
The Sports Editor oversees all sports content for The Xavierite newspaper. This role involves managing the section layout and ensuring each issue contains three pages of content. You will guide the sports coverage, ensuring a mix of news and commentary that focuses primarily on Saint Xavier University athletics.
What you'll do#
- Assign stories to sports reporters and columnists.
- Maintain contact with section contributors.
- Write two articles per week.
- Lead the Sports Committee.
- Meet weekly with section writers, the Editor-in-Chief, and the Deputy Editor-in-Chief.
- Attend general staff meetings and news writing workshops.
- Hold six hours of office time each week in The Xavierite office.
- Ensure news stories follow standard editorial guidelines for accuracy and fairness.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment as a student at Saint Xavier University.
- Federal Work Study eligibility.
- A submitted resume and cover letter.
- Preference is given to students majoring in journalism, communication, or English.
