About the role#
This is a paid internship for students pursuing LADC licensure or dual-licensure in fields such as LPCC, LMFT, or LICSW. You will work alongside licensed alcohol and drug counselors to provide substance use disorder treatment in residential and outpatient settings. The internship length is based on your specific educational requirements and program needs. You will receive supervision from board-approved supervisors to help you meet the 12 Core Functions of counseling.
What you'll do#
- Observe and assist with client screening, assessment for placement, intake, and orientation.
- Prepare clinical documentation including treatment plans, progress notes, group notes, and discharge summaries.
- Co-facilitate group and individual counseling sessions under supervision.
- Supervise client day-to-day activities and work assignments within a therapeutic community structure.
- Coordinate services with external partners like probation and community providers.
- Participate in clinical staff meetings and case reviews.
- Follow agency policies regarding the collection of urinalysis and breathalyzer samples.
What you'll need#
- Enrollment in an alcohol and drug counseling educational program through an accredited institution.
- Minimum of an Associate degree in counseling, human services, or a related field.
- At least 1 year of experience in human services or relevant lived experience.
- Ability to pass a criminal history background check and a driver record screen.
- Current Mantoux test.
- If pursuing dual licensure, you must be enrolled in a Master's degree program.
- Ability to connect with and support people from diverse backgrounds.
