About the role#
This internship provides an opportunity to work on flight control products for business, regional, military, and air-transport platforms. You will join our team in Cedar Rapids to support the development of systems such as autopilot, autoland, flight guidance, and autothrottle. You will work directly with experienced engineers on real-time embedded systems that carry critical safety requirements.
What you'll do#
- Define and review software requirements, including interface specifications.
- Develop and implement software architecture based on parent requirements.
- Write hand-code and integrate auto-generated code from MATLAB Simulink and Stateflow models.
- Implement control algorithms and signal processing for flight control systems.
- Conduct requirements-based testing of software.
- Support product certification through DO-178B/C compliant development.
- Mentor with experienced engineers to learn about the flight controls industry.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a Bachelor’s or Advanced degree program in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or Aerospace Engineering.
- Completion of at least 60 credit hours by the start of the internship.
- Experience developing in C or C++.
- Familiarity with object-oriented design.
- Understanding of data structures and their application to problem-solving.
- Experience with agile methodologies and model-based development using Matlab or Simulink.
- Ability to communicate technical information to management, customers, and team members.
- A passion for or previous experience with avionics systems.
- U.S. citizenship is required for access to necessary systems.
