About the role#
The Provo City Water Reclamation Plant is looking for a student intern to support the Pretreatment and Lab Divisions. This role offers hands-on experience in both laboratory and field settings for students pursuing degrees in biology, chemistry, or environmental engineering.
What you'll do#
- Collect and analyze water, wastewater, and sludge samples for physical, chemical, and microbiological properties.
- Conduct laboratory tests using specialized equipment like pH meters and spectrophotometers.
- Record and document test results, including BOD, COD, and various solids testing.
- Assist the Pretreatment Inspector with sewer line and grease trap inspections.
- Ensure all sample preparation and analysis follow EPA-approved methodologies.
- Prepare reports for plant process controls and regulatory agencies.
- Maintain a safe working environment and assist staff with daily operations.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in an undergraduate or graduate program in biology, chemistry, physical or environmental science, or a related field.
- A valid, lawful driver license.
- Physical strength and agility to climb ladders, work on scaffolding, and perform manual labor.
- Ability to lift 70 lbs.
Location & details#
- Location: Provo, UT (On-site).
- Schedule: 15 to 25 hours per week during the school year and up to 40 hours per week during the summer. Shifts are flexible between 6:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m., Monday through Saturday.
- Compensation: $15.00 to $17.00 per hour.
- Role type: Part-time, rolling term.
