    About the role#

    Procter & Gamble is seeking a PhD intern to join the Grooming R&D Process Development team in Boston. This role focuses on the development of advanced surface-engineering solutions for consumer products. You will work alongside experienced professionals to gain hands-on experience in a research environment.

    What you'll do#

    • Support the development, operation, and troubleshooting of advanced coating processes and equipment.
    • Operate and maintain laboratory-scale vacuum-processing equipment.
    • Plan and execute experiments to improve process quality, consistency, and product performance.
    • Evaluate process conditions and equipment data to understand the relationship between operating parameters, material properties, and product performance.
    • Use analytical and testing methods to assess material characteristics, integrity, and durability.
    • Analyze results, document findings, and share recommendations with cross-functional partners.

    What you'll need#

    • Current enrollment in a PhD program for Materials Science, Physics, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or a related field.
    • Hands-on experience operating, maintaining, or troubleshooting laboratory-scale vacuum or materials-processing equipment.
    • Experience analyzing data from material characterization and performance-testing methods.
    • An analytical mindset with experience applying Design of Experiments (DOE) methodologies.
    • Excellent written and verbal technical communication skills.
    • Availability to work a 12-week, full-time internship from May or early June through August 2027.
    • Experience with vacuum-based coating or surface-engineering processes is preferred, as is familiarity with diagnostic methods for vacuum or plasma-based processes.
