About the role#
Portal Innovations is looking for an intern to join our Lab Operations team at the UChicago Science Incubator for the Fall 2026 term. You will help maintain our shared lab spaces, support startup teams, and assist with the creation of equipment training materials. This role offers exposure to the daily operations of a collaborative research workspace.
What you'll do#
- Support the coordination and management of lab resources and equipment.
- Assist with routine maintenance of incubators and scheduled equipment upkeep.
- Manage inventory and implement safety protocols, including chemical and cold storage audits.
- Maintain a clean and organized work environment.
- Standardize lab SOP postings and communicate maintenance notices to members.
- Help deploy AI lab management tools to improve member experience.
- Partner with the Member Experience team to develop and execute events like workshops and networking sessions.
- Handle general administrative tasks and assist with event logistics.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in an Associates or Bachelors degree program in a related field.
- 1-2 years of foundational interest or experience in a science concentration or related area.
- Strong communication skills and a team-first attitude.
- Ability to work well with others.
- Comfort asking questions and a willingness to take on new challenges.
Location & details#
- Location: Chicago, Illinois (Hyde Park).
- Modality: On-site.
- Commitment: 20-30 hours per week.
- Compensation: $18.50 per hour.
- Status: This is a paid internship. Applicants must be eligible to work in the United States.
