About the role#
Point C is looking for a Healthcare Informatics AI Intern to join our Clinical and Utilization Management team. You will work alongside nurses, clinical staff, and operational leaders to analyze healthcare data, surface insights, and identify opportunities to improve processes using data and AI tools. This is a hands-on role where you will have ownership of projects and direct exposure to leadership. The internship is scheduled for 10-12 weeks, with potential for extension based on business needs.
What you'll do#
- Partner with clinical and utilization management teams to understand workflows and data needs.
- Use AI tools to accelerate data pulls and identify patterns across large clinical datasets.
- Analyze findings to flag trends or anomalies that are not visible through manual review.
- Leverage AI to draft summaries, structure findings, and generate templates for clinical and operational use.
- Clean and analyze healthcare data, including claims, date of service, provider specialty, and clinical indicators.
- Identify trends to support care management, cost containment, and quality improvement efforts.
- Support the clinical team in understanding how benefit structures and plan designs interact with outcomes data.
- Identify opportunities for AI or automation to streamline clinical reviews and reduce manual workload.
- Build lightweight data tools, dashboards, or summary reports to make data more accessible.
- Document methodologies and findings to ensure insights are repeatable.
- Present data findings and recommendations to clinical and operational leadership.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment as a Senior or Graduate student in Health Informatics, Nursing, Clinical Health Sciences, Public Health, Healthcare Administration, or a related field.
- Clinical or medical knowledge to understand terminology, diagnosis and procedure codes, provider specialties, and utilization management concepts.
- Experience working with healthcare data such as claims, provider information, or clinical documentation.
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to draw insights from complex datasets.
- Hands-on familiarity with AI tools like ChatGPT, Claude, or Copilot and the ability to apply them practically.
- Curiosity about how AI can improve healthcare operations.
- Familiarity with tools such as Excel, SQL, Tableau, or Power BI.
- Ability to communicate data findings clearly to clinical and non-clinical audiences.
- Ability to work independently, manage ambiguity, and prioritize across multiple projects.
- Experience with Python or R is a plus.
- Prior exposure to utilization management or managed care is a plus.
Location & details#
- Remote position within the United States.
- Term: Summer 2027 or Fall 2027.
- Compensation: $20, $25 USD per hour.
- This is a paid, full-time internship.
