About the role#
The Macro MSW Leadership internship provides graduate students with advanced experience in behavioral healthcare administration, program development, and systems-level social work practice. Working under the supervision of hospital leadership, interns participate in projects that improve patient care, operational efficiency, and organizational outcomes. This role is designed to prepare students for future leadership positions in behavioral health.
What you'll do#
- Shadow department leadership in daily operational activities, management meetings, and leadership rounds.
- Assist in planning departmental initiatives and participate in strategic planning discussions.
- Participate in Quality Improvement (QI) projects, including data collection and monitoring quality metrics.
- Assist with the development of new clinical programming, including researching evidence-based practices and designing workflows.
- Review existing policies and assist in drafting or revising departmental procedures.
- Support staff development by assisting with education materials and training development.
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams including nursing, physicians, and case management.
- Complete at least one major macro project, such as a program implementation plan, clinical workflow redesign, or community needs assessment, and present findings to leadership.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a CSWE accredited Master of Social Work (MSW) program.
- Completion of foundation-level coursework.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- A demonstrated interest in healthcare administration, leadership, and behavioral health systems.
- Eligibility for advanced field placement is preferred.

- Compensation: This is a paid internship.
