About the role#
The Occupational Therapy Intern joins our team to provide care for patients with various mental health diagnoses. You will work under the direct supervision of a licensed and registered Occupational Therapist to support patients in improving their adaptive function. This role involves active participation in an interdisciplinary treatment team to deliver high-quality, evidence-based care in a clinical setting.
What you'll do#
- Complete individual evaluations, supplemental treatments, and group interventions.
- Assess patient capabilities, needs, interests, and goals to design individualized treatment programs.
- Plan and participate in milieu and psychoeducational programming, including skill building and therapy groups.
- Establish therapeutic relationships with patients while providing spiritual, emotional, social, mental, and physical support.
- Monitor and report potential risks to patient safety and participate in crisis intervention and prevention.
- Document all necessary information according to established policies.
- Educate patients, family members, and clinicians on patient needs and recommend environmental changes for work or living spaces.
- Design, create, or requisition special supplies and adaptive equipment.
What you'll need#
- Enrollment in an accredited masters or doctoral degree program for Occupational Therapy or a similar degree.
- Eligibility to sit for the NBCOT Certification Exam upon completion of your program.
- Knowledge of current therapy principles, including Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), psychoeducational interventions, expressive arts, and occupational therapies.
- Previous exposure to relevant psychiatric, medical, or clinical experience is helpful but not required.
