About the role#
The PhD Summer Intern role within the PM Analytics team supports the investment process at PIMCO. Interns work directly with Portfolio Management to provide quantitative inputs. You will contribute to projects involving alpha generation and risk management. This 10-week program runs from early June to mid-August 2027 and includes mentorship, training, and a final project presentation.
What you'll do#
- Develop models for alpha generation and risk management.
- Conduct econometric analyses of historical returns.
- Build empirical and risk-neutral valuation models.
- Apply macroeconomic research to investment strategies.
- Analyze extensive transaction data to improve trade execution.
What you'll need#
- Ph.D. candidate status from a top program in Finance, Economics, Statistics, Computer Science, Physics, or Mathematics.
- Expected graduation between December 2027 and June 2028.
- Business proficiency in English.
- Programming skills, with a strong preference for Python.
- Formal training in empirical research, specifically in time series and panel data econometrics.
- Interest in asset pricing, fixed income markets, economic theory, and optimization methods.
