About the role#
Pape-Dawson is hiring a Civil Engineer Intern for the Winter 2027 term in Louisville, Kentucky. You will work on land development projects under the supervision of a licensed Professional Engineer. This role focuses on residential and commercial site development, providing hands-on experience with design tools, technical documentation, and project coordination.
What you'll do#
- Assist project managers and engineers with plans, specifications, and cost estimates.
- Use AutoCAD Civil 3D to create drawings, exhibits, and supporting documents.
- Develop design alternatives by analyzing project objectives, constraints, and engineering parameters.
- Design plans for grading, drainage, and utility layouts.
- Prepare technical reports, memoranda, and engineering studies.
- Participate in site visits, field activities, data collection, and construction observation.
- Handle redlines, submittals, and record drawings.
- Support permitting and coordination tasks for land development projects.
- Take on more complex design tasks as your proficiency grows.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a Bachelor of Science program for Civil Engineering at an ABET-accredited institution.
- Familiarity with standard engineering principles and practices.
- Basic proficiency in AutoCAD Civil 3D, Microsoft Word, and Excel.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work well both independently and in a team setting.
- Flexibility to manage changing priorities and deadlines.
