About the role#
This internship provides hands-on experience in GIS and field mapping within the telecommunications industry. You will support the Mapping/GIS department by verifying fiber infrastructure data. This is a part-time role, limited to 80 hours per month, based in Fayetteville, Arkansas.
What you'll do#
- Locate underground fiber path access points, including pedestals, vaults, and handholes, using handheld Trimble devices.
- Work from construction map books and iPad map viewers to follow build orders.
- Tag pedestals to cross-reference physical assets with the GIS fiber database.
- Document changes between map books and actual construction to ensure database accuracy.
- Record access address fields for each path access point.
- Represent the company professionally when interacting with members and the public.
What you'll need#
- Enrollment in an accredited university or college program.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Valid driver's license and the ability to drive in unfavorable road conditions.
- Comfort working on computers in a Windows environment.
- Strong math skills and a technical interest.
- Ability to read and follow written or oral instructions and solve problems.
- Experience with ArcGIS, Trimble Pathfinder, and Terraflex is preferred.
- Ability to work outdoors in varied terrain and weather conditions, including extreme heat or cold.
- Ability to lift or move up to 25 pounds regularly, and occasionally up to 50 pounds.
