About the role#
As an Engineering Intern at JLG, you will work alongside experienced engineers on a variety of projects. This role involves both office-based tasks and hands-on work on the assembly floor. You will contribute to the development of telehandler equipment through design, analysis, and testing.
What you'll do#
- Design, model, and test new mechanical systems for JLG equipment.
- Research and execute continuous improvement requests to support manufacturing, supply chain, and customer operations.
- Work with global engineering teams to prepare and review vehicle component layouts using CAD.
- Create and manage Engineering Change Notices within the PLM system.
- Update bills of materials in the PDM system to reflect product changes.
- Provide technical assistance on the assembly floor during prototype, pilot, or production builds.
- Perform engineering calculations, including weight distribution, stress analysis, and performance estimations.
- Consult with suppliers, customers, and internal departments to solve technical problems.
- Assist in the testing of complete vehicles and individual components.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a bachelor's degree program for mechanical engineering or a related field.
- A cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher.
- Strong mechanical aptitude and an interest in mechanical design.
- Good oral and written communication skills.
- Previous internship or work-related experience.
- Experience with extracurricular activities, such as SAE teams.
- Understanding of basic steel and sheet metal fabrication principles.
- Knowledge of the construction industry and related equipment.
- Experience with CAD systems like Creo Parametric, Pro-E, or CATIA is a plus.
