About the role#
The Client Advocate Internship Program offers a look into the criminal legal system and public defense representation in New Orleans. You will join the Client Services Division and partner with a Client Advocate to support our holistic, community-based model. This role involves direct contact with clients and their families, as well as coordination with various social service entities to help our clients navigate the legal process.
What you'll do#
- Visit clients in jail and conduct intake assessments for services.
- Reach out to client family members to provide updates and gather information.
- Assist in connecting clients with services and writing release plans.
- Ensure clients have information for services post-release.
- Coordinate with various social service entities in New Orleans.
What you'll need#
- A demonstrated interest in serving underserved and marginalized communities.
- The ability to work with people of various socio-economic, racial, cultural, and educational backgrounds.
- Effective oral and written communication skills.
- The ability to be organized and work independently or in a team-driven environment.
- Availability to attend the full training program at the beginning of the term.

- Term: Winter 2027 (January 23, 2027 to April 23, 2027).
- Modality: On-site.
- Commitment: Full-time.
- Compensation: This is an unpaid internship. We are happy to assist with paperwork for academic credit or outside funding sources.
