About the role#
The Packaging Engineering Intern supports the team in the design, testing, validation, and improvement of packaging solutions. You will work with engineering, quality, procurement, and operations to ensure packaging meets performance, cost, and environmental goals. This is a paid, full-time internship for Summer 2027.
What you'll do#
- Update and maintain packaging specification sheets and digital libraries in SharePoint.
- Create and revise unit packs, case packs, and pallet patterns using TOPS.
- Review packaging drawings, die lines, and supplier documentation in TraceGains.
- Verify packaging data including dimensions, weights, and Ti x Hi configurations.
- Analyze pallet utilization and freight efficiency.
- Evaluate barcode readability and recommend improvements.
- Maintain sustainability metrics and support Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) compliance.
- Identify ways to reduce packaging material usage and waste.
- Assist with product trials, launches, and packaging changeovers.
- Track and summarize quality complaints.
- Benchmark competitor packaging formats and innovations.
- Manage project timelines, including artwork development and implementation schedules.
- Coordinate packaging samples and assist in supplier evaluations.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in post-secondary education, with one year or less until graduation.
- Progress toward a degree in Packaging Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Business, or Marketing.
- Coursework or experience in packaging design, materials, manufacturing, or logistics.
- Familiarity with CAD software and project management tools.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office programs.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to manage your own workload and work well in a team.
- Interest in organic products and the cooperative business model.
Location & details#
- Location: La Farge, Wisconsin.
- Modality: This is a hybrid role. You will work onsite at the Cashton, WI office 3-5 days per week, with the option to work remotely for the remainder of the time.
- Duration: May 31, 2027, to August 20, 2027.
