About the role#
OPTO International is looking for a Human Resources Intern to provide part-time administrative support at our Wood Dale location. This is a supervised learning role focused on the employee lifecycle. You will gain practical experience in HR operations while assisting our team with daily tasks and projects.
What you'll do#
- Support new-hire onboarding by preparing materials, tracking documents, and coordinating orientation activities.
- Assist with benefits administration and provide COBRA-related support.
- Coordinate interviews by scheduling candidates, reserving meeting spaces, and managing logistics.
- Help with termination and offboarding administration.
- Maintain organized personnel records and perform routine data audits.
- Follow up with employees and managers regarding forms, deadlines, and training items.
- Enter data into spreadsheets and trackers.
- Identify opportunities to improve HR workflows using automation and AI tools.
- Support employee events, surveys, and general departmental projects.
- Handle sensitive information with discretion and escalate nonroutine questions to HR leadership.
What you'll need#
- Current pursuit or recent completion of an associate or bachelor degree in human resources, business administration, organizational leadership, psychology, or a related field.
- Interest in learning HR operations and the employee lifecycle.
- Strong attention to detail, time-management, and organizational skills.
- Professional written and verbal communication skills.
- Comfort following up with employees and candidates.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Outlook, Word, and Excel.
- Ability to learn new HR systems and administrative processes.
- Bilingual English/Spanish communication skills are preferred.
Location & details#
- This role is based on-site in Wood Dale, Illinois.
- You must be available to work during an agreed weekday schedule.
- This is a temporary, part-time position expected to average 20 to 24 hours per week.
- The assignment is expected to last three to six months, though this may change based on business needs.
