About the role#
The Operations Intern joins a rotational program designed to provide hands-on experience in the freight transportation and logistics industry. You will rotate through key business functions including Intermodal Operations, Sales, Pricing, and Finance. This role focuses on building analytical and communication skills while you gain a practical understanding of how Odyssey Logistics serves its customers. You will also complete a capstone project and present your findings to leadership at the end of the program.
What you'll do#
- Complete structured rotations across Intermodal Operations, Sales, Pricing, and Finance.
- Support the operations team with daily shipment tracking, scheduling, and communication with customers and carriers.
- Assist Sales and Pricing teams by conducting market research, performing rate analysis, and preparing customer proposals.
- Help the Finance team with data entry, invoice and accessorial review, and reconciliation tasks.
- Use Excel to gather and organize data, build reports, and identify trends or improvement opportunities.
- Shadow team members and leaders to learn about the industry.
- Manage a capstone project addressing a real business challenge.
- Participate in program activities like training sessions, networking events, and site visits.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a bachelor’s degree program in Supply Chain Management, Logistics, Business, Finance, Analytics, or a related field.
- Rising junior or senior status is preferred.
- A minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 is preferred.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
- Intermediate Excel skills are a plus.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to take initiative and manage multiple tasks and deadlines.
Location & details#
- Location: Lombard, Illinois.
- Work Modality: On-site.
- Schedule: 3 days per week (Monday, Wednesday, Friday), 4 hours per day, not to exceed 20 hours per week.
- Travel: Minimal or occasional local travel to terminals or rail ramps may be requested with notice.
