About the role#
This internship provides hands-on experience within the Manufacturing Engineering team at Cherne Industries. You will contribute to operations while working alongside engineers to improve production processes through automation. This position is part of the 2027 Oatey Summer Internship Program, which includes mentorship, developmental feedback, and networking opportunities.
What you'll do#
- Fabricate automated equipment to improve production processes.
- Support Automation Engineers with wiring, machining, and assembling custom automation.
- Gain exposure to PLC programming and controls.
- Analyze and evaluate manufacturing processes for automation opportunities.
- Provide startup support for debugging and production.
- Design and document work cells and fixtures to support process improvements.
What you'll need#
- Enrollment in an engineering degree or engineering technician program.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, specifically Excel.
- Experience with SolidWorks or other CAD software.
- A strong interest in manufacturing process design, material flow, production equipment, and work methods.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and organize work efficiently.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to work effectively within a cross-functional and multicultural team.
- A process-oriented mindset.
- Electrical wiring, PLC programming, or mechanical aptitude are considered a plus.
