About the role#
The Architecture Research Group is looking for interns to help define the future of GPU and data-center computing. You will work on research spanning GPU microarchitecture, memory systems, and large-scale hardware. This role involves exploring hardware and software co-design to solve architectural challenges in AI, robotics, and scientific computing. You will work alongside researchers and product architects to build the prototypes and simulators needed to test new ideas.
What you'll do#
- Investigate architecture concepts for future GPUs, accelerators, and data-center platforms.
- Study emerging workloads to identify architectural bottlenecks.
- Explore hardware-software co-design across compilers, runtime systems, and programming models.
- Develop models, simulators, and experimental tools to evaluate new concepts.
- Research new approaches to memory hierarchy, data movement, and system-level programmability.
- Collaborate with internal teams to develop and evaluate research concepts.
- Communicate findings through presentations, technical reports, and research publications.
- Help transfer successful research methodologies and tools into product teams.
What you'll need#
- Current pursuit of a PhD in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Physics, or Mathematics.
- Relevant industrial or university experience.
- Strong programming skills in C, C++, and scripting languages.
- Experience with CUDA programming.
- Background in building computer system simulators.
- Experience building low-level software tools like binary translators, compilers, or runtime systems.
- Strong foundation in computer architecture and parallel systems.
- Preferred: Research publications at venues such as ISCA, MICRO, ASPLOS, HPCA, or MLSYS.
- Preferred: Experience with generative AI coding tools, GPU profiling, or running deep learning models on GPUs.
Location & details#
- Locations: Santa Clara, California; Westford, Massachusetts; Seattle, Washington.
- Term: Summer 2027.
