About the role#
The Nucor Technical Academy is a 27-month training program designed to teach electrical maintenance fundamentals. The goal is to prepare participants to work as maintenance electricians. The program combines classroom instruction with structured hands-on training. Selected candidates will begin academic coursework online and participate in limited on-the-job training in Marseilles during the first summer and fall. You will then relocate to Tuscaloosa, Alabama, for five continuous semesters of technical courses and training at Nucor Steel Tuscaloosa. You will have opportunities to return to your sponsoring division between semesters until graduation.
What you'll do#
- Participate in electrical maintenance training through classroom and hands-on instruction.
- Work directly with experienced Nucor Maintenance Team Members on assigned tasks.
- Initiate, lead, and uphold safety policies, practices, procedures, and housekeeping standards at all times.
What you'll need#
- You must be a high school student graduating in May 2027.
- A current high school transcript including the first semester of your senior year (a 2.75 GPA is preferred).
- ACT, SAT, or Accuplacer scores.
- A one-page essay explaining your work history, activities, interests, and goals.
- A completed Willingness Questionnaire.
- A separate application to Shelton State Community College.
- A completed Student Information Sheet.

- This position is based in Marseilles, Illinois.
- This is a full-time, paid internship for Summer 2027.
