About the role#
The Petra Mayer Memorial Fellowship supports the NPR Culture News Team. This fellowship honors the legacy of Petra Mayer by providing hands-on experience in public service journalism, media ethics, and multi-platform production. You will work alongside professionals on the Books We Love and Book of the Day projects.
What you'll do#
- Conduct research for critical stories and long-term projects.
- Assist with the production, diversity tracking, and research for Books We Love.
- Research and pull tape for reporters while laying up audio stories.
- Produce digital pages for stories and reviews.
- Write headlines and select art for digital publication.
- Assist with social media promotion.
What you'll need#
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience in Communications, Journalism, English, Media Studies, Civil Engineering, or History.
- Basic research, reporting, and writing skills.
- A voracious appetite for books and pop culture.
- Intermediate social media proficiency.
- Strong time management skills.
- Basic radio production experience is preferred.
Location & details#
- This is a full-time, 20-week position.
- The role is hybrid, requiring a few days per week in the Washington, D.C. office.
- You must reside in Washington, D.C., Maryland, or Virginia to be eligible.
