About the role#
Novelis is looking for a Surfaces Engineering Co-Op to join our team in Kennesaw, Georgia. This position is a six-month, full-time commitment starting in May 2027. You will work on connecting lubricant properties to aluminum forming performance through hands-on experimental research.
What you'll do#
- Measure lubricant properties such as lubricity, wetting behavior, and load-bearing performance.
- Apply thin lubricant coatings to aluminum sheets.
- Operate equipment to form aluminum parts.
- Evaluate surface quality using techniques like scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and surface topography.
- Correlate your experimental findings with forming performance to guide future lubricant selection.
- Summarize your data and generate technical reports.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a bachelor’s, master’s, or Ph.D. program in mechanical, chemical, or computer engineering, materials science, or a related technical field.
- A minimum GPA of 3.5.
- Authorization to work in the United States without the need for current or future visa sponsorship.
- One or more years of hands-on laboratory research experience.
- Experience with hypothesis-driven experimental design and data analysis.
- Ability to work independently with strong attention to detail.
- Familiarity with data analysis tools such as Python, MATLAB, or Origin.
- A commitment to following all laboratory safety protocols.
- Graduate students are preferred.
- Background in surface science, metal forming, or aluminum alloys is helpful.
