About the role#
The Joining and Forming team at the Novelis Global Research and Technology Center is seeking a Joining Engineer Co-op for a six-month term. This position focuses on the qualification and development of aluminum joining processes. You will work alongside engineers, scientists, and technicians to support product development and qualification efforts.
What you'll do#
- Conduct literature reviews regarding joining methods for aluminum material combinations.
- Plan, develop, and optimize aluminum alloy joining processes.
- Perform laboratory experiments and operate joining and materials-characterization equipment.
- Prepare test specimens for metallography and mechanical testing.
- Analyze experimental data using sound engineering and statistical methods.
- Maintain organized test records while following safety and operating procedures.
- Document research findings and present results through written reports and technical presentations.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in an accredited four-year university in Materials Science, Mechanical, Industrial, Welding Engineering, or a related field.
- Hands-on project or laboratory experience with metal joining, materials processing, or characterization.
- Experience with metallography and mechanical testing.
- Strong written, verbal, and presentation skills.
- Ability to work safely and effectively in a team environment.
- Availability for approximately 6 months during the summer and fall of 2027.
- Legal authorization to work in the United States without sponsorship.
- Preferred: Graduate students pursuing a master’s degree or PhD.
- Preferred: Experience with laser welding, resistance spot welding, self-pierce riveting, electron microscopy, design of experiments, or engineering simulation.
