About the role#
The Special Investigations Unit (SIU) at NJM Insurance Group is looking for a Summer 2027 Intern to join the team in West Trenton. You will support our investigative efforts by using data analytics, research, and reporting to identify potential insurance fraud. This role provides exposure to fraud detection and data mining while helping you build technical and communication skills.
What you'll do#
- Triage and analyze scorecards and outputs from predictive models for claims and medical providers.
- Perform data mining to explore anomalies and conduct statistical analysis.
- Identify patterns and trends related to fraudulent personal and commercial policies.
- Conduct background research using public databases.
- Review internal databases and retrieve recorded calls to support investigative teams.
- Develop metrics, statistics, and actionable intelligence to aid in decision making.
- Translate complex analyses into information that non-technical staff can use.
- Share your findings with SIU supervisory staff.
- Attend virtual industry meetings to learn more about the insurance field.
What you'll need#
- Current sophomore or junior status pursuing a bachelor's degree in Criminal Justice, Data Analytics, Statistics, Mathematics, or Economics.
- A cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher.
- Familiarity with data science tools and systems such as SQL, SAS, or PowerBI.
- Proficiency in the Microsoft Office Suite.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Excellent verbal, written, and presentation communication skills.
- A pro-active, self-motivated approach to work.
- The ability to listen effectively and collaborate with others.

- This is an on-site position based in West Trenton, New Jersey.
- This is a paid summer internship for 2027.
- Candidates must be able to commute to the West Trenton office.
