About the role#
This is a full-time, paid internship for Summer 2027. You will report to a Software Engineering Team Lead and work alongside other developers to maintain and enhance NISC software solutions. This includes our utility, broadband, financial, and operations applications. You will also collaborate with support staff and quality assurance teams to meet business requirements.
What you'll do#
- Research, design, and develop software systems.
- Analyze and resolve basic software maintenance tasks.
- Assist in the enhancement and maintenance of application programs.
- Follow established software development methodologies and procedures.
- Perform quality testing for unit and system integration.
- Review and prioritize assigned change requests.
- Document work and track information using Confluence and the iVUE Support tool.
What you'll need#
- Current pursuit of a Bachelor’s degree in a computer science related field and a high school diploma or equivalent.
- Familiarity with Object Oriented concepts, specifically Java and its frameworks.
- Experience with JavaScript, including newer Angular versions or TypeScript.
- Knowledge of HTML, CSS, SCSS, and enterprise design patterns.
- Understanding of relational and non-relational databases like Postgres, Oracle, MongoDB, or Cassandra.
- Experience with Linux, Microsoft Windows, and cloud technologies such as AWS.
- Strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and clear communication abilities.
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.

Location & details#
This position is a hybrid role. You will be expected to work from one of our office locations in Lake Saint Louis, Missouri, Cedar Rapids, Iowa, or Mandan, North Dakota. You must be able to work in the office at least 3 days per week, with the option to work up to 5 days per week.
