About the role#
As a Firmware Engineer Intern on the Robotics and Surgery Engineering team, you will contribute to the development of automated surgical systems. You will work on new embedded systems from the ground up while refining existing codebases. This role involves collaboration with a cross-functional group of roboticists and engineers to support the implantation of the Neuralink device.
What you'll do#
- Develop and optimize embedded software for robotic surgery applications.
- Refine and retire legacy embedded software to streamline the codebase.
- Conduct rigorous testing and validation of software systems.
- Participate in peer code reviews.
- Write drivers and applications to expand robotic functionality.
- Specify hardware and software choices for future platforms.
- Share project progress and technical findings with the team.
What you'll need#
- A record of success in a science or engineering field through projects or innovations.
- Proven experience in software development.
- At least 2 years of experience with embedded systems.
- Proficiency in C, C++, or Rust, as well as embedded toolchains.
- Experience building and bringing-up MCUs or FPGAs.
- Knowledge of communication protocols such as SPI, UART, I2C, PCIe, MIPI CSI/DSI, USB, and 802.3.
- Experience with ARM cores, bootloaders, and embedded Linux platforms including kernel configuration and device tree setup.
- Ability to code drivers for actuators and sensors and handle high-speed data acquisition.
- Understanding of MCU architectures, electrical engineering, and DSP.
- Ability to interpret electrical schematics and datasheets while using lab equipment.
