About the role#
The BCI Applications team builds software that allows people with paralysis to control computers, phones, and other devices using their minds. You will work directly with clinical trial participants to understand their needs and refine the software experience. This is a multidisciplinary role where you will collaborate with software, design, machine learning, and neuro-engineering experts.
What you'll do#
- Engineer software systems for brain-computer interfaces.
- Design and implement algorithms to decode brain activity.
- Create new applications and features while resolving existing issues.
- Develop, test, and validate software systems.
- Work with clinical study participants to iterate on and refine software functionality.
- Design user experiences focused on brain control.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to build new BCI functionalities and computer user interfaces.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a Bachelor's degree program in Computer Science or a related field.
- Strong experience with full-stack development.
- Fluency in Swift, Objective-C, Kotlin, or Java.
- Experience architecting performant, maintainable, and reliable user-facing software.
- Evidence of exceptional engineering ability and delivering high-impact projects with clear metrics.
- Strong grasp of engineering first principles.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
- Ability to be resourceful, flexible, and adaptable.
- Preferred: Experience with native development for desktop, Android, or iOS.
- Preferred: Knowledge of operating systems, low latency concurrency, memory management, and networking.
Location & details#
- This is a full-time, paid internship.
- Roles are based on-site in Austin, Texas or South San Francisco, California.
- The program operates on a rolling basis.
