About the role#
The Robot Electrical Engineering team designs, tests, and integrates the electrical systems for the surgical robot used to implant our devices. As an intern, you will own projects and contribute to the development of custom electronics. You will work alongside optical, mechanical, and software engineering teams to ensure our surgical process remains safe and efficient.
What you'll do#
- Design, verify, and oversee the transition to production of custom electronics systems.
- Manage all phases of board design, including part selection, schematic design, layout, and bring-up.
- Create custom motor drivers, from transistor selection to control loop design.
- Develop high-bandwidth, low-latency camera hardware and firmware.
- Build custom FPGA based Optical Coherence Tomography data acquisition systems.
- Develop testing hardware, such as Hardware-In-The-Loop systems, validation boards, and life-cycle testing rigs.
- Conduct case studies on future system architectures, including new compute platforms, redesigned actuator layouts, and deep-brain imaging systems.
- Support team efforts through debugging, manufacturing, and testing.
What you'll need#
- Experience developing circuits or products used by real customers, including student design teams or personal projects.
- Circuit board design experience with advanced knowledge in at least one niche, such as HDI, high speed digital, high power, radio frequency, or atypical materials.
- Experience with sensors, power management, and signal or power integrity.
- Familiarity with common communication protocols like SPI, UART, and I2C.
- Competence with lab equipment, including oscilloscopes and power supplies.
- A portfolio showing examples of completed projects.
- Experience developing electronics for critical systems in fields like medical devices, aerospace, automotive, or military.
- Proficiency in firmware development for embedded systems using C, C++, or Rust.
- Experience with software development for Linux systems using Python, C++, or Rust.
- Enrollment in an Electrical Engineering or Computer Engineering degree program.
