About the role#
We build the electrical systems that make high-bandwidth brain-computer interfaces possible. This includes neural signal acquisition and stimulation, wireless power delivery, embedded processing, and system integration. You will work on devices small enough to be implanted in the human body and efficient enough to operate under strict thermal and power constraints. You will join a team where success depends on careful measurement, iteration, and engineering judgment across multiple interacting systems.
What you'll do#
- Manage all phases of board design, including part selection, schematic design, layout, and bring-up.
- Collaborate with chip designers, firmware engineers, mechanical engineers, and microfabrication experts for system integration.
- Apply electrical engineering fundamentals and system design practices to build reliable, high-performant, and manufacturable systems.
- Contribute to R&D investigations and experiments to demonstrate the feasibility of new technology for the implant and charger.
- Work cross-functionally to ensure successful system integration.
- Improve systems to decrease latency and increase battery life, reliability, and safety.
- Design and deploy systems for implant-charger hardware in the loop testing and manufacturing line quality control.
What you'll need#
- Strong electrical engineering fundamentals.
- Experience designing PCBs for low power and size-constrained applications.
- Proficiency with PCB CAD tools such as Altium, Eagle, KiCad, or Allegro.
- Experience with sensors, power management, and signal or power integrity.
- Familiarity with common communication protocols like SPI, UART, and I2C.
- Comfort using lab equipment including oscilloscopes and VNAs.
- Basic programming skills in C and Python.
- Experience with firmware development for embedded systems using C or C++.
- Experience with wireless systems like BLE, WIFI, or Zigbee.
- Experience building and bringing up MCUs or FPGAs.
- Proficiency with mechanical CAD tools like Solidworks or AutoCAD.
- Experience with analog circuit design.
Location & details#
- This is a full-time, paid internship.
- Work is on-site in Austin, Texas, or South San Francisco, California.
- The internship term is rolling.
