About the role#
The National Health Law Program (NHeLP) is seeking up to four legal interns for the Summer of 2027. This is a paid, full-time remote position spanning 10 weeks. Interns will work within one of three strategy areas: Federal Advocacy, Enforcement and Litigation, or California Advocacy. You will receive mentorship from attorneys and policy analysts while gaining exposure to high-impact legal work.
What you'll do#
- Contribute to legal and policy analysis regarding health care, including Medicaid and the Affordable Care Act.
- Research novel areas of health law and draft legal memoranda and publications.
- Respond to requests for legal and policy analysis from advocates nationwide.
- Draft comments on federal regulations and state Medicaid demonstration projects.
- Monitor and analyze state and federal legislation and administrative policies.
- Participate in state and national coalition strategy meetings.
- Assist with the production of manuals, guides, issue briefs, blog posts, and presentations.
- Research and draft litigation materials for state and federal court proceedings.
What you'll need#
- You must be a law student between your second and third years of study during Summer 2027.
- Students in dual degree programs must have completed at least two years of law school.
- A demonstrated commitment to public interest work, public health, poverty law, or civil rights.
- An interest in expanding and protecting health care access for low-income and underserved populations.
Location & details#
- This internship is fully remote.
- The term lasts 10 weeks with a commitment of 37.5 hours per week.
- Interns are expected to attend virtual meetings according to the time zone of their assigned strategy area.
