About the role#
Momentive is looking for an undergraduate chemistry student to join the Tire and Rubber Technology Team for the summer of 2027. You will support the development and synthesis of novel silane molecules for tire and rubber applications. This role provides exposure to industrial research and development practices while working alongside experienced synthetic chemists.
What you'll do#
- Synthesize and characterize new silane molecules and intermediates.
- Assist in the purification, preparation, and shipment of materials for performance testing.
- Participate in optimizing synthetic procedures.
- Maintain a safe, clean, and organized laboratory workspace.
- Document all experimental procedures and results in an electronic laboratory notebook.
- Follow safety protocols for the handling, storage, and disposal of chemicals.
- Conduct literature reviews to support project objectives.
- Contribute ideas for developing synthetic approaches to target molecules.
- Troubleshoot reaction and product quality issues.
- Participate in technical discussions and project reviews with cross-functional team members.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in an undergraduate degree program pursuing a B.S. or B.A. in Chemistry or a related field.
- A minimum GPA of 3.0.
- Coursework and laboratory experience in organic chemistry, with completion of Organic Chemistry I and II strongly preferred.
- Experience conducting synthetic organic chemistry reactions in an academic research lab or advanced coursework.
- Strong laboratory safety awareness and attention to detail.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills.
- Undergraduate research experience in synthetic organic chemistry is preferred.
- Experience with silicon chemistry is a plus.
Location & details#
- Location: Pearl River, New York.
- Term: Summer 2027.
- Schedule: Full-time, 40 hours per week for 10 to 12 weeks between May and August.
- Work Modality: On-site.
- Compensation: $22.00 to $26.00 per hour.
