About the role#
As a Mechanical Engineering intern or co-op at MKS Inc., you will join the Direct Pressure Engineering group for a 6-month assignment. You will report to the Senior Manager of Engineering and contribute to the design, analysis, and testing of capacitance sensors and transducers. This is a full-time position beginning in January 2027.
What you'll do#
- Support the design, analysis, build, and test of capacitance sensors and transducers.
- Collaborate with engineering and production teams to build prototype designs.
- Diagnose production issues related to sensor performance.
- Perform mechanical and thermal analyses using SolidWorks or COMSOL FEA with guidance from senior engineers.
- Test pressure transducers at both the sensor and system level.
- Analyze test data and create detailed reports.
- Assist in the design and troubleshooting of test systems.
- Fabricate test equipment using 3D printing and CNC milling.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a Bachelor’s Degree program in Mechanical Engineering at the University of Massachusetts Lowell.
- Experience with SolidWorks CAD modeling.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, MATLAB, or Python for data processing.
- Comfort using standard hand tools to build electromechanical devices and test systems.
- Familiarity with basic electrical testing and debugging methods.
- Understanding of mechanical design and heat transfer principles.
- Familiarity with test instrumentation such as thermocouples, strain gauges, and infrared cameras.
- Ability to perform extensive test data analysis.

- Compensation: $23.00 to $31.00 per hour.
- Travel: Up to 10% travel may be required.
