About the role#
As an Applications Engineering Graduate Intern, you will partner with Emerging Applications and Product Engineering teams to define future industrial laser machining systems. You will report to the Senior Manager of Emerging Applications in Beaverton, Oregon. This is a full-time, paid, on-site internship.
What you'll do#
- Use design-of-experiments (DOE) methodology to prepare and execute applications work.
- Perform metrology and analysis, including optical and confocal microscopy, focused ion beam milling, and scanning electron microscopy.
- Analyze data using statistical and image analysis software.
- Create applications guides and best-known-method documentation to support communication between teams.
- Maintain and troubleshoot the tools used in your daily work.
What you'll need#
- Enrollment in a Master’s or PhD program at the University of Oregon.
- Knowledge of laser-material interactions from an optics or materials science perspective.
- A self-motivated approach to cross-functional problem solving.
- Experience with optics and scanning subsystems or UV and CO2 lasers is a plus.
- Comfort with hands-on use of optics and opto-mechanics components is a plus.
- Background with Python, Matlab, or similar tools is a plus.

- Compensation: $37.00 per hour.
- Benefits: Interns working at least 20 hours per week receive 11 paid holidays, sick time, and 15 days of accrued paid vacation.
