About the role#
The Systems and Architectures Group at MIT Lincoln Laboratory conducts high-visibility studies to inform senior leadership on defense technology. As a summer intern, you will join multidisciplinary teams to address complex problems in areas like air, missile, and maritime defense. You will work on projects involving sensors, platforms, and detection algorithms, with assignments tailored to your specific background and interests.
What you'll do#
- Perform system modeling and build simulation tools.
- Analyze data to evaluate current and future defense capabilities.
- Identify key technologies and assess performance trades.
- Present technical results to diverse audiences.
- Receive mentorship while solving open-ended research problems.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a BS, MS, or PhD program.
- Academic background in physics, astronomy, engineering, mathematics, computer science, or related technical fields.
- Programming experience, preferably in MATLAB or Python.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a Secret level DoD security clearance.
- U.S. citizenship is required.
Location & details#
- This is a full-time, paid internship located on-site in Lexington, Massachusetts.
- The program runs during the summer of 2027, typically lasting 10 to 12 weeks.
- Compensation is based on your highest academic year or degree completed before the start date.
- Housing support is available for eligible non-local interns, including a one-time taxable relocation payment and shuttle transportation.
