About the role#
The Advanced Undersea Systems and Technology Group offers a summer internship for students to work on national security challenges. You will work with a multi-disciplinary team to develop systems, sensors, and platforms. This is a full-time, on-site role for Summer 2027. Interns receive mentorship and participate in professional development workshops and tech talks.
What you'll do#
- Perform hardware and algorithm development.
- Conduct data analysis from operational environments.
- Apply novel algorithms to emerging mission areas.
- Develop artificial intelligence and machine learning applications.
- Prototype autonomous systems capabilities.
- Create advanced simulation tools.
- Conduct system modeling and performance analysis.
What you'll need#
- Pursuing a B.S. or higher degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Applied Mathematics, Physics, Oceanography, Computer Science, Data Science, or a related field.
- Ability to communicate technical content to a variety of audiences.
- Proficiency in a scientific programming language like MATLAB or Python.
- Experience with artificial intelligence and machine learning.
- Experience with digital signal processing, estimation, and tracking.
- Experience with data processing and manipulation of large data volumes.
- Experience with high-performance computing environments.
- Experience with autonomous systems and field-testing prototype systems.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a Secret level DoD security clearance.
- U.S. citizenship is required.
Location & details#
- Location: Lexington, Massachusetts.
- Term: Summer 2027 (typically 10 to 12 weeks).
- Compensation: Paid hourly based on academic progress, ranging from $25.00 to $43.50 per hour.
- Housing support: Available for eligible non-local interns, including access to discounted university housing in Boston and a one-time relocation payment.
- Transportation: Complimentary daily shuttle service provided from Boston-based housing to the laboratory.
