    About the role#

    As a Summer Research Program intern in the Laser Communications Group, you will contribute to a lasercom prototype build program. You will own a specific technical project, which you will complete and present by the end of the term. This role involves hands-on research alongside scientists and engineers, as well as participation in professional development workshops and networking events.

    What you'll do#

    • Work on software development, embedded systems design, and control systems development.
    • Conduct tasks related to fiber optics, photonics, and data analysis.
    • Apply academic knowledge to research projects.
    • Present your project results at the end of the internship.

    What you'll need#

    • Current enrollment in a Bachelor's, Master's, or Doctorate program in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Mathematics, or Physics.
    • Experience working in a fiber optic or photonics laboratory environment.
    • Ability to learn new technical areas quickly and apply that knowledge to solve problems.
    • Proficiency in either embedded systems, control, digital and analog circuit design and testing, OR proficiency with C/C++, Python, or similar languages.
    • Excellent communication skills to explain technical solutions to engineers in other disciplines.
    • Desired background includes signal processing for real systems, model-based simulations, Linux real-time operating systems, or software interfaces with hardware peripherals.
    • U.S. citizenship is required, and you must be able to obtain and maintain a Secret level DoD security clearance.

    • Location: Lexington, Massachusetts.
    • Term: Summer 2027 (typically 10 to 12 weeks).
    • Modality: On-site.
    • This is a paid, full-time position.
    • Housing support and shuttle transportation are available for eligible non-local interns.
