About the role#
The Electronics for Contested Space Group at MIT Lincoln Laboratory is looking for a co-op student to support IT and systems administration tasks. You will work on projects involving satellite payloads, radar systems, and space control technology. This role offers exposure to various operating systems and network configurations in a mission-critical environment.
What you'll do#
- Install operating systems and troubleshoot Windows 11, Windows Server, and Linux distributions like Red Hat and Ubuntu.
- Configure and maintain the LAN infrastructure across Windows and Unix/Linux environments.
- Implement and test system upgrades and network configurations.
- Manage software license renewals to ensure service continuity.
- Apply security measures in line with government and laboratory policies.
- Research and suggest new hardware and software products.
- Help move and set up IT equipment and assist staff with technical tasks.
What you'll need#
- Enrollment in an accredited Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Networking, or IT degree program with a 3.3 GPA or higher.
- Completion of at least 2 years of undergraduate study.
- Eligibility for a formal college or university co-op program.
- Knowledge of Windows, Windows Server, Unix/Linux, and macOS.
- Ability to diagnose and fix hardware, software, and networking issues.
- Strong interpersonal and organizational skills.
- U.S. citizenship and the ability to obtain and maintain a Top Secret DoD security clearance.
- Experience with desktop applications, OS imaging, BitLocker, and LUKS is preferred.
- Familiarity with scripting languages like bash, Perl, or python.
- Experience with DoD Mandate 8570.1-M security procedures is a plus.
