About the role#
This co-op position supports the Operations Planning team by running and interpreting next-day contingency studies. You will bridge the gap between planning and real-time operations, gaining exposure to both shift and non-shift work. Your work directly informs the daily readiness of the grid and helps the team manage challenges during high-demand and renewable-heavy conditions.
What you'll do#
- Review next-day load forecasts and outage schedules.
- Run contingency simulations using TARA or PSS®E.
- Identify potential grid constraints.
- Summarize findings to inform Operating Guides and daily operator handoffs.
- Develop automation for power system models.
- Enhance workflows that impact grid operations.
- Collaborate with engineers to manage grid challenges.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment as an undergraduate (Junior or Senior) or graduate student.
- Degree pursuit in Electrical Engineering or a closely related field.
- Proficiency in Python or another coding language with the ability to learn quickly.
- Strong skills in Microsoft Excel and Office tools.
- Familiarity with PSS®E, PowerWorld, or TARA is preferred.
- Experience with SQL for data analysis and automation is preferred.
- Coursework in Power System Engineering or Transformers is preferred.
