About the role#
As a Power Systems Engineering Intern, you will support the reliability of the grid by working with our Planning and Operations teams. This role sits at the intersection of long-range transmission planning and day-to-day grid operations. You will be paired with a manager and a mentor to help build your professional network throughout the summer.
What you'll do#
- Support power flow studies, model development, and process automation.
- Review load forecasts and outage schedules.
- Run contingency simulations using TARA or PSS®E.
- Identify potential grid constraints and summarize your findings.
- Contribute to the development of new transmission facilities or Operating Guides.
- Present your summer project findings to department leaders and company executives.
What you'll need#
- You are an undergraduate student pursuing a degree in Electrical Engineering, Electrical & Computer Engineering, Computer Engineering, Power Systems Engineering, or a closely related field.
- Proficiency in Python.
- Strong skills in Microsoft Excel and Office tools.
- Familiarity with industry power flow tools such as PSS®E, PowerWorld, or TARA is preferred.
- Experience with SQL for data analysis and automation.
- Completed coursework in Power System Engineering, Power Flow Analysis, Transformers, Machines, or related topics.
