About the role#
This internship provides an opportunity to contribute to artificial intelligence and machine learning projects within Microsoft AI. You will work on teams focused on content, commerce, monetization, and search fundamentals. You will apply expertise in supervised and unsupervised learning, deep learning, and reinforcement learning to translate complex business challenges into practical solutions. This role involves driving research into production using cloud-based technologies.
What you'll do#
- Analyze and improve machine learning algorithms and systems at scale.
- Optimize performance across large, complex datasets.
- Translate product needs into applied machine learning problems.
- Design and execute experiments to validate and iterate on solutions.
- Develop models for search, ranking, recommendations, retrieval, and language understanding.
- Prepare, clean, and curate high-quality datasets while defining inclusion criteria.
- Build and enhance data and machine learning pipelines.
- Apply statistical methods to validate assumptions and evaluate model performance.
- Collaborate with scientists, engineers, and product stakeholders.
- Communicate technical insights and experimental results clearly.
- Incorporate emerging research and tools into your work.
What you'll need#
- Currently pursuing a Doctorate degree in Computer Science, Statistics, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field.
- Must have at least one additional quarter or semester of school remaining after the internship ends.
- Enrollment in a full time PhD program during the academic term immediately preceding the internship.
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in a relevant technical field or equivalent experience.
- Two or more years of related experience in statistics, predictive analytics, or research.
- Experience exploring product challenges using modern solutions.
- Research publications, coursework, or project experience in search, language models, recommender systems, or related areas.
- Experience running controlled experiments and interpreting evaluation metrics.
- Familiarity with large-scale distributed systems or productionizing applied science solutions.
