About the role#
The Department of Subways Division of Emergency Management and Preparedness focuses on the safety and resilience of the subway system. This internship involves supporting the division with data management, administrative tasks, and emergency planning. You will contribute to projects including storm surge mitigation equipment and the division SharePoint site.
What you'll do#
- Assist in the preparation and response to emergencies within the Department of Subways.
- Monitor weather data and external factors that could impact subway operations.
- Track preparedness activities to ensure they align with emergency management plan tasks.
- Collect and maintain accurate records and data.
- Create and distribute preparedness reports.
- Maintain documentation for emergency management plans.
- Coordinate with team members and Subways Liaisons to gather information.
- Provide general day-to-day administrative support for office operations.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in an undergraduate program with at least a 2.5 GPA or a graduate program with at least a 2.8 GPA.
- Preferred majors include Homeland Security, Emergency Management, Criminal Justice, Liberal Arts, or related fields.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
- Strong organizational, analytical, and communication skills.
- Ability to work under pressure and prioritize tasks.
- Attention to detail.
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
Location & details#
- Location: New York, New York.
- Term: Winter 2027.
- Modality: This is an on-site position requiring regular in-person attendance.
- Compensation: Undergraduate students earn $19.00 per hour, and graduate students earn $21.00 per hour.
- Schedule: Minimum of 20 hours per week.
