About the role#
The SSC Open Gym Monitor facilitates open gym sessions at Messiah University. You will work independently to oversee the gym space, ensuring a safe and welcoming environment for all users. This role requires availability during nights and weekends.
What you'll do#
- Report to work on time with consistent attendance.
- Refer participants to posted safety guidelines and gym policies.
- Float through the gym every 15 minutes to ensure compliance with rules and the student handbook.
- Set up sporting equipment and check it out to users.
- Organize equipment in storage areas and report any damage or replacement needs to your supervisor.
- Document and report all incidents.
What you'll need#
- Previous experience in a fitness center, gym, or athletic setting.
- Ability to work independently and responsibly as the sole monitor on site.
- A friendly and welcoming demeanor.
- CPR, First Aid, and AED certification (must be obtained after hiring).
- Adherence to the dress code, which requires appropriate athletic wear, closed-toe shoes, and shirts that fully cover the torso.

- Term: Fall 2026 academic year.
- Compensation: $8.00 per hour.
- Majors: Kinesiology, Health Administration, Public Health, Biology, Psychology, Sociology, Communications, and Business Administration.
